How to Build a Box Step

Step 1: Add an Extension Board

When positioning a step along a Support Board edge, the Dek-Block® piers will interfere with the step. A facia board will need to be added before the decking is applied. If the step is along the edge of the End Board, no modifications are needed.

Secure scrap 2"x6" blocking boards to the backside of the Facia Board or End Board using decking screws. Next, attach a 2"x4" extension board to the blocking boards beneath the Facia Board or End Board.
