Lenny Carlson - Pool Deck Project
Summer 2005

Another picture of the backfilled wall.   The sand backfill is complete. By the way it’s now June 10th, 2005. This retaining wall took some time to do but, it should be worth it in the long run.

A picture of the “supervisor” hard at work keeping an eye on things.   OK, we’ve started to buy the treated lumber and after some thought and hopefully long range planning we made the first of 24 sections for the circular portion of the “splash deck”

Starting to lay out the Dek-Blocks? for placement of the first section. It is a very simple process and the blocks can be adjusted as you go. Keep in mind to keep them level as you go around. That is much more important than the horizontal location.   Another picture showing block layout. The blue tarp is not permanent, it was just laid down to keep the rain from washing the sand out. It will be removed at a later point.

Still another picture of the blocks being laid out.   A view facing the West showing the first 5-6 sections on the posts. After the first one is setup and screwed down the rest were easy.

Facing NW showing the 1st seven sections up and tied together. Now things are starting to look different…..   Facing E-NE on the North end of the pool showing the positioning of the posts in the Dek-Blocks. The cool thing about these blocks versus the generic ones is that the 4x4’s actually wedge into the bottom of the block so the 4x4 stands upright by itself which is huge if your doing a lot of this by yourself.
