Frank and Adele - Pool Deck Project
Summer 2004

5/1/04 - The framework for the walkway is almost complete. I still need to put the supports in place.   And there's a small gap on the end where the wooden railing will meet up with the resin railing. I think I'm going to extend the resin fence outward, and attach one of the railing brackets right onto the wooden railing. I considered making a small trapezoid to complete it, or build a triangle and just corner it off, but the resin railing would be the easiest way to do it, plus I think the two wood options would be more effort than they're worth. By the way, that laser level has made this project so much better. I have no idea what I would have done without it.

Here's a photoshopped pic of what I'm thinking... Either attach the bracket to the wooden frame, or maybe even attach the resin upright end directly to the wooden railing, once it's up.   5/16/04 - Just for kicks, here's what it turned out looking like. Not a bad Photoshop job, eh?

Another angle of this end.

Some work notes: I ran into one snag. I was using the laser level to keep the deck level. I made the mistake of not making sure the deck stays even with the height of the pool. Either the pool settled down a bit on one side, or the installers didn't make it completely level, but it was off by about an inch to an inch and a half towards the middle of the walkway. I needed to fix this mainly because when the deck is done, that will be really noticeable. So, I went back and inserted a wedge under each support to make up the difference. There were six supports I needed to raise slightly. That wasn't very easy, but Zach helped and that really helped fix things. From that point on, I was using the laser to go to the coping level, and dropping 8" down, make a mark, then make the posts that height. It eventually met back up with the original height towards the end.
