Frank and Adele - Pool Deck Project
Summer 2004

Here's our pool. We had it installed in August 2003. We got sick of the heat, and the kids are getting to the age where they can learn to swim and really enjoy the water.

The problem is, our property doesn't have a flat surface on it, save the driveway. The most ideal place to put it is here, which is a hill, albeit not a really steep one. Surprisingly, that slope, after digging enough ground out to put the pool, was over 7' from end to end. Originally, I thought we could just dig half in, and take that ground, move it to the other end, and build up. Well, I was told by more than one person that shouldn't be done, and the contractor hired to excavate refused to do it that way. I took a hint.

    Digging begins

That's a LOT of dirt!   The outline of where the pool will be installed. We had the center dug out about a foot deeper than the perimeter of the pool.

Pool wall up, installation well under way. I did not install the pool, I hired a contractor to install it.   Starting to fill the pool. A vacuum attached to one side kept the liner sucked to the walls until the bottom is filled at least to the bottom crease.

Pool's filled, and we're in! I started to install the resin fence. That fence was a real waste of money. $650, and I ended up taking half of it down when I started building the deck. Problem is, when we bought the fence, I hadn't yet planned to build a deck, and we were afraid of a kid running down the hill and falling right into the pool. The hill was higher than the pool wall at this point.   Here it is, finished, with the ladder in. I hate those ladders. They're cheap and shaky.
