HISTORY

Think of it as Lincoln Logs for adults! If you liked this classic building system as a kid, you'll love the DekBrands Floating Foundation Deck Systems. The theory behind both is really the same, make it simple and people will build it.

In the mid-1980's, Paul Hoffman was inspired by his customers' desire for a simple, complete, do-it-yourself deck package. He owned several small lumberyards in Oregon. Every time a customer would come to Hoffman wanting to build a deck, they had to sit down and start from scratch. According to Hoffman, his lumberyards were like grocery stores and his customers wanted a restaurant. So he decided to create complete deck packages instead of trying to sell just parts and pieces.

His first challenge was to eliminate the most complicated steps of deck building -- digging the postholes, mixing the concrete and pouring the footings. The Dek-Block® piers Hoffman created and patented eliminate these labor-intensive steps. He then created a standardized plan that works for any size or shape deck. The concept is amazingly simple. He's even determined the exact number of nails or screws needed for each plan.

In 1988, the first DekBrands Floating Foundation Deck System was sold in Oregon. Now, virtually anywhere lumber is sold, you can find the Dek-Block® piers.
